At Friday's executive session, Showtime chairman and CEO Matthew C. Blank announced a spin-off of The L Word, every lesbian's favorite drama with the hot mamas.
Though the spin-off is in very preliminary stages, Blank confirmed that series creator Ilene Chaiken is working on a new series that will star one of the current cast members. Further, he said that the series finale of The L Word will feature an open-ended storyline that will continue in some online iteration until the spin-off begins airing, and then will become part of the spin-off's narrative.
The L Word's final season is scheduled to air in early 2009. Until then, let's chat. Which lady of L would you like to see front and center on the spin-off?
My vote goes to the deliciously British, jet-setting, millionaires daughter, Helena. Mmmmmm....

We the People... Lesbiatopia's Editors Explore the Wisconsin Gay Marrage Law
Over on Current TV, debate is hot over a State of Wisconsin law that says if a same-sex couples from Wisconsin goes to California to get married, it is a criminal offense that threatens them with a $10,000 fine or up to 9 months in jail (or both) if they do marry in California.
This law was passed decades ago, says it is illegal to enter into a marriage outside the state if that marriage is not legal in Wisconsin and was enacted to prevent underage couples from crossing state lines to marry.
In 2006 Wisconsin voters passed a constitutional same-sex marriage ban; gay marriage is not legal in Wisconsin.
But up till last month this law was not really a problem for Lesbians and Gays in that state because the only state that had gay marriage was Massachusetts. Their law essentially has a caveat in it that says same-sex marriages preformed in Massachusetts are only legal outside the state of Massachusetts if that state also recognizes same-sex marriage. In other words, if I got married in Massachusetts, my marriage would only be recognized in California.
California’s marriage law has no residency requirement for marriage and has no “good only in California” caveat. The May 15 ruling opened up marriage to all same-sex couples no matter where they live.
It has also opened up a big door to challenges for other states anti same-sex marriage laws under Article IV, Section 1 of the United States Constitution, or more commonly known as the Full Faith and Credit Clause. This clause mandates that states within the US have to respect the "public acts, records, and judicial rulings" of other states.
Now, the religious right-wing fundamentalists in Wisconsin are pointing to the underage couples law, stating it should be applied to Gay and Lesbian couples residing in Wisconsin as a way to stop them from marrying in California and by doing thereby prevent these Constitutional challenges.
Same-sex marriage opposition in WI is out in full force hoping to accomplish just that.
Most of the pro-law supporters in the Current TV debate seem to think this law is a fair way to handle the problem. But they are mostly justifying their positions by saying things like, “Gay Marriage is an abomination to God”, “The Bible says it is wrong”, “God hates Homosexuality” and that being Gay is “a threat to religion.” What I see going on here in this debate is the “religiously affiliated” want laws to officially codify their religious beliefs. They seem to have forgotten there is and should always be a distinct separation between church and state.
There is such hatred of homosexuals in this country and it all seems to be come from religious zealots who believe that the only rights anyone should be afforded are the ones they believe in.
Religious Right leaders such as Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, James Dobson and D. James Kennedy have often claimed that they offer the mainstream vision of America. Their own words, however, demonstrate a radical world view far removed from the values of most Americans. Over the past two decades, their rhetoric and agenda have been shrill, divisive and extreme.
Being gay should not be viewed as a threat to anyone’s religion, gay or straight, and that all people should be treated with the same equal basic human rights like anyone else. We all pay our taxes, live by the laws that are governed to us and do our best to live up to a respectable moral code.
Gays having the same rights as everyone else will not affect any one religious affiliation more than another; more people will not become gay, more people will or will not go to church, the social fabric will not be destroyed and the cathedrals will not fall.
Religious groups take widely varying stands on issues such as marriage and human sexuality. It is imperative that the government respects American diversity by not imposing one tradition’s narrow view of marriage and sexuality on the entire country.
The problem with doing this is that our country is comprised of so many different religious groups and political affiliations that to have one dominant religious influence mandating the laws of our country is downright unfair.
Even among the LGBT community or the Editorial Staff at Lesbiatopia for that matter, there is not agreement on religious beliefs or how the Bible should be perceived.
I hold a Doctorate in Classical Humanities and have made it my life's work to study ancient cultures and their myths.
In my opinion, the Bible is a fictional tale, based on relevant events at a period in history when the Bible was written to explain natural occurrences that the writers of the Bible had no explanation for and The Bible should not be rendered as an entirely historical or factual piece of literature anymore than say the Iliad should.
Renee, on the other hand, believes that the Bible is based mostly on truths and past events, but that there is a strong need for Americans to find their own path of spirituality and not base life choices on exact quotations from one book and one book alone.
But both Renee and myself however believe some Christians have continuously mis-quoted passages from the Bible to their advantage, especially when arguing against homosexuality, thus creating an overwhelming sense of hypocrisy on their part in our eyes when they ignore other passages of the Bible that even they cannot abide by.
One such example of this Bible misinterpretation we have found is highlighted extensively and with much success in the documentary film For the Bible Tells Me So, which brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture – and reveals that religious anti-gay bias is based almost solely upon a misinterpretation of the Bible.
But most importantly we both agree what we really need is a strict line of demarcation between church and state and the single greatest threat to church-state separation in America is the movement known as the Religious Right.
We feel organizations and leaders representing this religio-political crusade seek to impose a fundamentalist Christian viewpoint on all Americans through government action and they represent very serious threat to every American and their basic freedoms.
In final, it doesn’t matter what any religious group feels or thinks about homosexuality. It is not their place to lobby for such a law as the one being debated in Wisconsin because it fits into their religious beliefs.
We feel they need to remove their religious affiliations and go back to Article IV, Section 1 of the United States Constitution; that which seeks to provide a fair, just and non-religious mandate and all US states and territories must to respect the "public acts, records, and judicial rulings" of other states, not the just the one the Religious Right agrees with.
We support the American’s United for Separation of Church and State position that says the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, established religious liberty -- the right of individuals to worship or not -- as a defining American value.
This separation protects us from undue religious influence in government and undue government intervention in religion and private decision-making. We feel that the wall separating government and religion is being eroded, and so is our right to make personal decisions.
And we probably will see you in the Supreme Court before this debate finally ends.

2% of Americans Want to Know: Will Tila Tequila Ever Find Love?
I admit, I didn't actually watch this season of Tila Tequila Train Wreck, Round 2, but I wasn't shocked when I heard that this time the tables had turned. That's right people, Tila Tequila had her first bittersweet taste of rejection.
On Tuesday’s finale of A Shot at Love 2, Tila Tequila’s decision became clear early in the episode when she rooted for female finalist Kristy over potential boyfriend Bo.
Tila presented the key to Kristy and then was in shock and awe when Kristy refused it. “You love that I’m honest and that I’m true to my feelings and true about who I am,” she said. “If I take this key I’m not being true.”
It was Tila's response that really makes me pee my pants a little. “Why would you do that now?” Tila asked. “Why would you put me through all this process? ...I feel humiliated.” Tila's biggest concern was "being put through all this process" when she herself has done that to more people than I can count on both hands, through two seasons of Tila Tequila awfulness!
Apparently, Kristy had been dropping hints all night, though. Over dinner, she told Tila, “I am 120 percent sure of my feelings for you, but I am unsure about my experience with women. I’ve never done this before. I’m so scared to hurt you.” In the limo ride to the final decision, she even said, “It would be a lot easier if she didn’t choose me.” When you're as self-absorbed as Tila, you lack the genetic make-up to pick-up on these hints.
Well, it looks like this is sure to pave the way for Tila Tequila 3: Third Time's a Charm, Right?
Missed the final episode? Here it is. Try not to cry too hard.

And so did Katy Perry. But, she wasn't always singing about kissing girls. First she sang about God. Then she kissed a girl — and she liked it (as it goes with most Christian girls. Just watch "Loving Annabelle"). Such is the contrast between Katy Hudson, Christian singer, and Katy Perry, chart-topper. Same girl, two stage names, two vastly different personas. And fans who loved the Katy who billed herself as the God-loving daughter of two pastors aren't pleased with her new image: Hip-shaking, lingerie-wearing, pseudo-lesbian pop star. But that's the way, uh-huh uh-huh, WE like it!
Born Kathryn Hudson, the now name-settled Katy Perry scored the dance song of the summer with "I Kissed a Girl" — not to be confused with Jill Souble's 1995 hit of the same name — currently at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Perry's debut album with Capitol Records, "One of the Boys," dropped June 17 to similar success.
But this isn't her first foray into music. Back in 2001, at the tender age of 16, she released "Katy Hudson" with the now-defunct Christian music label Red Hill Records. Russ Breimeier, who reviewed the album for Christian Music Today, thought she showed promise.
Instead of sticking with Him (Jesus Christ, Superstar) on the road to righteousness, the newly minted Katy Perry, 23, hopped on the highway to pop stardom (and who can blame her?). First, she took on a new stage name to avoid confusion with the other Kate Hudson of the silver screen.
Then, after picking up on mainstream music she recorded with production team The Matrix and released on her MySpace page, Blender magazine named Perry "the next big thing" in October 2004. In her interview with Blender, Perry confessed she wasn't "a typical Christian" and revealed she had done "lots of bad things" as a teenager. Finally, a Christian girl that's actually admitting to their bad-girl side. Maybe more Christians will follow suit and come out of the closet with tales of naughtiness.
And perhaps those bad things provided the inspiration for "I Kissed a Girl," which she released in April 2008 after signing with Capitol Records in early 2007. Now Katy sings:
No, I don't even know your name
It doesn't matter
You're my experimental game
Just human nature
It's not what good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey
I kissed a girl and I liked it
Perry's Christian fans aren't sure what to think.
According to ABC News:"I just think it's interesting that seven years ago she had a Christian album and what she's doing now is clearly not Christian," said Joanne Brokaw, who blogs about Christian music for Beliefnet.com. "I get the sense that maybe she was engaged in rebellious behavior back then. I just wonder what the decision was — did people not really know or were they looking the other way?"
"It seems like ever since the name change, she's gotten this rep as a party girl," Breimeier added. "You can still hear some of the talent that was there before, but it just sounds like she's doing whatever she can to get noticed," he said. "And that's unfortunate. I feel bad for her folks."
Katy's publicist declined ABCNEWS.com's repeated requests for comment.
Of course, it's not unusual for musicians to start out in the Christian circuit and later flee for mainstream success. Alternative-rockers Evanescence did it; so did the band Lifehouse and, perhaps most famously, '90s pop princess Amy Grant.
But while all of them maintained a straight-laced image in the music industry — at least compared to their counterparts who didn't cut their teeth in the Christian circle — Perry seems to be jumping at the chance to be a sexpot pop star, the next Britney Spears or Cristina Aguilera.
"The thing about her is that she decided to leave that scene behind," said Joe Levy,
editor in chief of Blender magazine. "I don't think she fits in with other Christian music artists who transition to pop success. She didn't transition — she stopped dead, reinvented herself, became an artist who has nothing to do with Christian music. It's a footnote in her career. It looks like who she is now is who she wants to be, slightly outrageous and very cute. And right now that's working." (ABC News)
Whatever the motivation is for her transformation, she's obviously doing something right. I like the song and plan on downloading more from her new album. Plus, just watch the music video. It's hot. Even if Katy Perry is just experimenting, or even if she never comes out, she's one piece of eye-candy that I will be savoring down to the very last drop. Enjoy girls!

Support the Lifesaving Work of The Trevor Project at Trevor New York!
- contributed by Jacque Wing
Communications Manager / The Trevor Project
West Hollywood, CA
Star-studded company, fabulous entertainment, and great food are all in check for the eighth annual Trevor New York gala on June 30, 2008 at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City. The event benefits The Trevor Project, the non-profit organization that operates the only nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for gay and questioning youth. Award-winning actor Alan Cumming and The N, the 24-hour network for and about teens, will be honored at the gala.
Because suicide is one of the top three killers of young people, and gay and questioning youth are four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers, The Trevor Project’s work is especially critical. Currently, The Trevor Project manages to do its lifesaving work on a shoestring budget, supported primarily by the generosity of individuals.
The Trevor Project was created by James Lecesne, Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone, creators of the 1994 Academy Award®-winning short film, Trevor, a comedy/drama about a gay 13-year-old boy who, when rejected by friends because of his sexuality, makes an attempt to take his life. When Trevor was scheduled to air on HBO® in 1998, the filmmakers realized that some of the program’s teen viewers might be facing the same kind of crisis as Trevor, and began to search for a support line to be broadcast during the airing. They discovered that no such helpline existed, and decided to dedicate themselves to forming what was, in their view, a much-needed resource: an organization to promote acceptance of gay and questioning youth, and to aid in suicide prevention among that group.
Trevor New York will be hosted by actor Alec Mapa. Idina Menzel and Sandra Bernhard will be performing; Lauren Collins, Gideon Glick, Cheyenne Jackson, Heather Matarazzo, Rosie Perez and Adamo Ruggiero are among the celebrity presenters.
For tickets, call The Trevor Project at 310-271-8845 or visit TheTrevorProject.org.

One Wedding Photographer Who's Going to Lose a LOT of Business

I was perusing the rants and raves of Craiglist Los Angeles and I came across this "Wedding Photographer" who has clearly stated he will never photograph a gay wedding. I just had to share.
THIS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER WILL NEVER, EVER DO ANY GAY WEDDINGS OR ANYTHING REMOTELY RELATED. YOU PEOPLE CREATED AIDS AND YOU WANT RECOGNITION AS A LEGITIMATE LIFESTYLE??? GET F-ING REAL!Too bad being homophobic will really kill his chance at getting some good business. Forget this guy, I'll photograph your wedding (and for cheap!). Feel free to email this guy and tell him all the great business he just lost: pers-723377191@craigslist.org.
* Location: GAY = PERVERSION
And a BIG congratulations to all the newly wedded gays and lezzies who are celebrating across the state of California today!!
(and because I just couldn't help myself)
(and I even gained a fan!)
(but I also gained an enemy)
(and yet another homophobic photographer, throwing their money down the toilet)
(and this is just downright hilarious)
god, I love craigslist. Read More......

I like lesbians. I like karaoke. I like fun. If you like these things too, than you will like this blog article. It's more of a photo blog than a worded article, but I will start you off with a little personal history before introducing the picture. I am the organizer of a local lesbian social group in LA called madfemmeprideLA. We do lots of fun events like museum trips, beach outings, dinners and yes, even karaoke nights. This Saturday was our second annual lesbian karaoke night, held at the wonderful Backstage Bar in Culver City, CA (home of Sony Studios!) Read on for pure, unadultered drunken debauchery.
So, at about 8pm, 50 or so madfemmeprideLA lesbians met at the Backstage and began to enjoy a few cocktails. When the Karaoke DJ rolled in at 9:30pm, this group of girls were ready to ROCK and ROLL! And these ladies did not disappoint. In my hazy cloud of alcohol-induced euphoria, I photographed the whole event. As the night progressed, I decided to see how many of the girls in my group would take fantastically silly pictures of themselves with me. Here they are in no particular (or sober) order (including some great mic shots as well). Enjoy!

Call me crazy, but I just love me some karaoke.
