OMG Don't even get me started on the problems with the "No on 8" campaign. They were turning away volunteers at their campaign office in West Hollywood, and the volunteers they did have spent their whole time calling other people to try to get them to volunteer. Those new volunteers would then come into the office to recruit new volunteers, and so on, until this huge pyramid was built of volunteers calling each other and never actually doing anything. And I could just puke watching all the "visibility" events they did in West Hollywood. What a damn waste of money.

Also, can I just add that I gave them a check for $25 in September that they just cashed **yesterday**??? Damn I hate them!!

The PR firm for the campaign is here in Sac and was fired - they moved to another firm, also local - they both do issues PR, but they just didn't seem to understand what they had their hands on or how to deal with it all.

Had that been done right, the black voters and the Mormon money wouldn't have had a chance.

Did you see any clear, consistent messaging in their campaign? I didn't. They also didn't lasso ALL the competing organizations together to fight as one. Bad move.

I actually think, that the times have shifted enough that a great many of the people who voted for Prop 8 actually do favor equal civil rights for gays and lesbians. They just have a problem with the institution of "marriage: they confuse the religious meaning of the term with the clvil institution--even if they are not religious.

Of course, there are some who are just bigots and hateful--but by and large the perception has changed on the underlying rights.

Frankly, I would like the government to get out of the marriage business, and just issue domestic partnership licenses or whatever and then, if they wished, they could get the sacramental part done in the church of their choice. Of course, this would also require that all the benefits conferred on marital people by the government just be removed--and I think that is appropriate--marriage is a private contract and the government should not have anything to do with it. Married people should not have benefits that unhitched individuals do not.

But, it is only a matter of time, and not that much, perceptions on this whole issue are changing dramatically, and I expect gay marriage to be the law in the land much sooner than most people think.

Sadly, she thinks she is right because it's easier for her to be a parrot of her pastor than it is for her to show love. Jesus was all about LOVE and he spent a huge portion of his ministry trying to show the hypocrisy of the "religious" people who knew and obeyed the letter of the law, but rarely the spirit of the law.

As it is written in Ecclesiastes 1:9 "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." There will always be people like this.
